Services

Eye Examinations

The basis of all our services is a comprehensive and professional eye examination aimed at making sure you have the best for your ocular health and vision.

Private eye examinations are available to anyone not entitled to an NHS eye examination.

You qualify for a free NHS-funded sight test if:

you’re under 16
you’re under 19 and in full-time education
you’re 60 or over
you’re registered as blind or partially sighted
you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma
you’re 40 or over, and your mother, father, brother, sister, son or daughter has been diagnosed with glaucoma
you’ve been advised by an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) that you’re at risk of glaucoma
you’re a prisoner on leave from prison
you're eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher - your optometrist (optician) can advise you about your entitlement

You’re also entitled to a free NHS sight test if you:

receive Income Support
receive Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (not Contribution-based)
receive Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
receive Income-based Employment and Support Allowance (not Contribution-based)
are entitled to, or named on, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate
are named on a valid NHS certificate for full help with health costs (HC2)

If you’re named on an NHS certificate for partial help with health costs (HC3), you may get some help towards the cost of your sight test.

We take an active part in the Nottingham Community Ocular Hypertension Monitoring Scheme.

West Bridgford and Arnold now have the latest retinal cameras to enhance the eye examination.

Glass Studio

Arnold, Hucknall, Bingham and Netherfield now have the Glass Studio computerised imaging system. This in effect allows you to try on complete spectacles with frame and lenses together before they are made. It allows comparison of different frames, and shows the effect of varying lens options in your prescription in any chosen frame.

Contact Lenses

We provide a full contact lens service, from initial fitting and instruction, thorough aftercare, to refitting existing contact lens wearers. Various contact lens types are available:

Gas Permeable

Small rigid lenses ideal for existing hard lens wearers, daily wear, and higher prescriptions including astigmatism. Allow a much higher amount of oxygen to the front of the eye than hard lenses.

Soft

Large, soft lenses that mould to the front of the eye. Can be fitted as unscheduled replacement, frequent replacement, or daily disposable. Particularly suitable for intermittent, social or sports wear.

Monthly replacement and daily disposable soft lenses are the most popular modes of contact lens wear. Most prescriptions can be fitted. The new silicone-hydrogel lenses allow longer wearing times for most people.

Toric Lenses

Toric contact lenses are now also available to correct astigmatism.

Contact lens aftercare is extremely important for the continued health of the eye, and we encourage everybody to have a full check-up at least once a year, and more often if recommended by their optometrist.

VDU / DSE Eyecare

The Health and Safety Executive Regulations 1993 governing VDU users states that employers have a duty to ensure the provision of regular eye examinations for all employees who are already, or who will become, VDU users, including new employees.

Under the regulations the provision of eye examinations and of special corrective appliances (normally spectacles) specifically for VDU use are at the expense of the employer.

We can provide on-site vision screening, backed up by full eye examinations (in practice) complete with report.

We also supply a range of specially discounted spectacles suitable for VDU use available to employers using our VDU service.

For more details please contact Alan Green at the West Bridgford practice.

Safety Spectacles

We can supply a range of prescription safety spectacles complete with impact resistant lenses and side shields suitable for a variety of industrial or D.I.Y. situations. Safety is particularly important where your eyes are concerned, and this can be a practical way to safeguard them.

Visual Field Testing

We have computerised visual field examination equipment at all our practices.

Disabled Access

All our practices are wheelchair accessible.

Staff Training

We have our own training program to take our staff from junior receptionist to frame stylist, and have regular updates on training to ensure that they can give the best customer service possible.

For more details on all the above services please contact your nearest branch.
