Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are thin, plastic discs which fit to the front of the eye to correct vision. Recent improvements in contact lens technology means that the benefits are available to more and more people.

Contact lenses are particularly useful for most sporting activities and offer the benefit of seeing clearly without spectacles.

As contact lens specialists we provide a comprehensive contact lens service, fitting and supplying all types of lenses with schemes and payment methods to suit most pockets.

Daily Disposable Soft Lenses

These lenses are designed and manufactured to be worn once and then discarded. From less than £1 per pair they are the perfect choice for the occasional, sports or social wearer.

Lenses may be purchased in either 30 or 90 pair packs as and when necessary, or on a monthly standing order scheme.

Free trial lenses are available if you wish to try before committing yourself. An up-to-date sight test (£25) and trial contact lens appointment that includes assessment and instruction (£25) are necessary first. To complete a fitting and be supplied with lenses you need to join our Contact Lens Aftercare Scheme at £4.25 per month (minimum membership 1 year).

30-Day Continuous Wear Lenses

There are some new contact lenses designed for up to 30 days continuous wear. They can also be used as daily wear lenses for people who require extremely high oxygen transmission through their lenses. This is achieved by the use of silicone within the lens material. Overnight wear of these lenses requires very careful fitting and close follow-up, and aftercare visits are correspondingly more frequent than with most other contact lenses.

Frequent Replacement Schemes

Easily the most popular and cost effective scheme for those who wear soft contact lenses every day.

For a monthly fee by standing order from £16.00 you will receive a fresh new pair of lenses every month together with the necessary cleaning solutions. This also includes all necessary aftercare.

Gas Permeable Contact Lenses

These lenses are made from a semi-rigid material with great oxygen permeability designed to withstand the rigors of repeated daily wear. They are extremely durable, and available in most powers and fittings. They can be designed for the most complex of prescriptions.

Bifocal Contact Lenses

Both soft and rigid gas permeable contact lenses are available as bifocal designs for people who need a separate distance and reading correction. These lenses invariably involve some compromise on both distance and near vision.

Another solution is monovision correction , which involves using one eye for distance and the other eye for near vision. This is a simple and cost-effective alternative, which can be achieved with most types of contact lens.

Contact Lens Aftercare

Contact lenses need to be fitted to the eye to make sure they will not cause discomfort or damage to the eye. Correct care of the lenses to prevent eye infection, and attendance for all recommended aftercare visits is extremely important. We operate a Contact Lens Aftercare Scheme for all our contact lens wearers, which covers all contact lens aftercare for a year once an initial assessment has been carried out. To ensure complete satisfaction and eye health we only supply lenses to current members of this scheme. This costs £4.25 per month for standard lenses, and £6.50 per month for continuous wear lenses. Minimum membership of this scheme is 12 months.

Prices correct as of July 2004.
